Yesterday Was Rough But The Braves Don't Lose, The Giants And Mets Are Set For A Slugfest, And Jose Abreu Is Due To Go Deep

I told y'all I'm not a professional gambler. Look, yesterday was a disaster. I went 0-3 and wasn't close at all with any of my picks. I'm still learning the ropes. Rome wasn't built in a day. When I assess yesterday's picks, I still stand by the logic. I'm trying to figure out which teams I trust, and the Blue Jays are approaching my shit list. They're just so damn inconsistent. The Yankees laid an egg in game one against St. Louis. Luis Severino is turning into a gas can. As far as the Astros are concerned, they were shut down by a pitcher in Nathan Eovaldi, who is having a career year. Am I embarrassed by the losses? Yes. Is it panic time? Not yet. Just need to keep it simple. Let's break down today's picks.

Braves -1.5 (+104) against the Marlins

Okay, I'm keeping this one nice and simple because the Braves don't fucking lose. I should've gone with this one yesterday. Still, Eury Perez being on the mound for the Marlins scared me (he ended up giving up six runs in the first inning). While Atlanta is facing a former Cy Young winner in Sandy Alcantara, he hasn't been the same pitcher this year, and honestly, it doesn't matter. The Braves are taking people's souls right now. They aren't just beating teams; they're destroying them. If there's any pick that should get me back on track, it'll be this one.

Jose Abreu to homer (+440)

I'm rolling the dice with this one. Jose Abreu's numbers on the season are still dreadful. He's still having far and away the worst year of his career, and it seems like he aged five years the second he signed in Houston. With that said, I like this matchup for multiple reasons. While the numbers are still ugly, since the calendar turned to June, Abreu's OPS is .803. He's been starting to heat up, but I take pitcher/hitter matchups into account, and Jose Abreu absolutely feasts on Andrew Heaney. He's 4-13 against him, but all 4 of those hits have been home runs. The Astros will need to put some runs on the board with Framber Valdez not being available today. I expect Jose to go deep.

Mets/Giants over 9 (-104)

I was stunned by this number. You have Ross Stripling on the mound for the Giants (6.88 ERA) and David Peterson on the mound for the Mets (7.00 ERA). I won't act like these offenses aren't anything special, but nine seems REALLY low. The leash on Stripling won't be long, but the Giants bullpen has pitched as many innings as any in the National League over the last month. That is going to catch up with them at some point. From the Mets side, David Peterson has been a complete mess all season. Even if he holds his own, the Mets bullpen is good for about three runs a night. I'm feeling a slugfest here.
